So here is my plan... wanted some unbiased opinions before I run it past the parents.?

my parents took out loans for 2 and a half years at a private university. All in all it ended up being about 50,000 in loans before interest. I have two years of school left, but since I took time off they no longer want to finance it. In order for me to finish my degree it would cost another 50,000. that would leave them 50,000 in debt, and me about 70,000 in debt do to other loans I took out to finance my education. My plan is to join the Air Force and help my parents repay the 50,000 they took out, and complete my degree while in the Air Force or as soon as I get out. I tried to join last year but they were not having it because they wanted me to finish school, and I was so afraid to disappoint my friends and family. I was also afraid to leave my friends and fam Now i%26#039;m over that and realized I have been out of school for a year now and really need to make a decision to make something out of my life and think that this would be a good way of doing it. What do you think. pros %26amp;cons

All of the services have a student loan repayment option -- they will pay off so much of your student loan for each year of service.

Talk to the Army and the Marines, they are the ones that need personnel now and will offer the largest perks.

they airforce is a good place to go, you can have a career there

and pay your parents back and even get funds to finish your school...

if you join...thanks for serving your country....

Guess it depends---whatcha wanna do in the Air Force?? What do you wanna be when you grow up? :)

Air Force are a tough group to get into. Most of their stuff is technical in some form or another. Higher scores are needed to get in.....they are a small force, and getting smaller as they downsize a bit more in the near future.

So.............whatcha wanna be with you grow up? :D

Very wise choice. That route it would be better to go Active Duty.That%26#039;s just my opinion. Unless you already have a paying job.

It%26#039;s good that you%26#039;re already over with being clingy to your friends and posessions now.

For the schooling you%26#039;ve already done you%26#039;ll be slightly ahead in rank than the other recruits.

PS: That%26#039;s ALOT of money lol.

you may not come back would be the biggest con . or you could come back emotionally and/or physically disabled. parents still will owe the 50K. I%26#039;d get back in school and get out so you can start manking money. Your life / Your all !

Just keep mind joining the Air force is a committment, not just a tool to help you finish college.

You%26#039;re walking away from college because things are getting rough. you can%26#039; walk away fromn the Air Force if things get a little rough. If you know that and can accept it, then, go!

I agree with Ticd, on this one. Also you can use the Montgomery G.I. Bill the help pay for your college while you serve in the military or wait till you complete your time inthe Air Force, not to mention, they may evenhave a sign on bonus if you join the military, to help pay your parent%26#039;s loanthey used to finance your college.

If you are 18 you dont need thier approval to join the service. You just need their support on what you decide.

Be sure that they will pay the loans your parents or you took out. Some loans are not covered. Check out all the branches to see whom will give you a better deal.

Do not join the armed forces of a country at war unless, to put it bluntly, you are prepared to die or to kill or maybe both. Paying off debts isn%26#039;t a good motivation for joining up.
