Is it stereotypical to be a stripper..(EXOTIC DANCER) to to pay for my education?

I started school @ 17, finished a year had my son @ 18. I raise him by myself. I%26#039;m now 21. My mother has never once baby sat my son or offered to for that matter....but I dont expect her too. My son is great and I%26#039;m dying to get back in school for my BS in Psychology. I have a full time job now I make around 2500 - 3000/month but I would love to have a career doing what I%26#039;d like, further more it is a set schedule 7am-5pm leaving no time for school ( I have to pick my son up for 6:30PM)Therefore I have to/need to go back to school and finish my 3 years. I have student loans out from my first year, credit card debt and medical debt, only because I%26#039;m by myself and @ 18 with a kid you do what you can to get by and make sure he/she is fed everyday. I%26#039;ve been think about stripping @ a houston gentlemens club in order to pay for school. Is this stereotypical of me? I%26#039;d love to hear your opinions obviously I%26#039;m going to do what I think is best for me but what would you do in my shoes?

No, its not stereotypical. Most strippers are not Demi Moore, they are women with low self esteem, many sexually abused who strip because they think that%26#039;s all they can do. Despite the stereotypes, most strippers have real problems of one sort or another.

You are an 21 y.o. single mother with no education and, from the sound of it, no support from family. Life is difficult. Going back to school for a degree will be very difficult, requiring some difficult choices. If you want to take your clothes off for money, there are some real serious prices to be paid as some of the other posters have pointed out. If a degree in psychology is worth the cost, then go for it.

Not an easy choice...

I wouldn%26#039;t if I were you and that%26#039;s because you have a child now. Just think when he gets older, he will find out and his friends might tease him or something. It is great money, but the hours will suck. But you need to do whatever is good for you and your son.

EDIT: Did you not ask for our opinion? %26quot;I%26#039;d love to hear your opinions%26quot;

So we gave them to you and now you are getting all mad. THEN DON%26quot;T ASK!

I think it would be kind of hypocritical if you were a stripper then later became a psychologist.

The %26quot;trap%26quot; of exotic dancing is...

It%26#039;s difficult to go from 6 hrs a day for $3000.00 or more a month, to...

8 hours a day for $2000.00 or less...

It%26#039;s quite a %26quot;pay cut%26quot; to give up the %26quot;dancing,%26quot; if that%26#039;s really what you want to call it...

Why leave a decent paying job to lower yourself to be a stripper? That%26#039;s a stigma that will follow you around for the rest of your life: %26quot;Did you hear about her, she used to be a stripper%26quot;. In soicety no one really respects strippers and as a mother and someone who wants a bigger career down the road this could hurt you. Instead try to look into what other financial help you can receive from the goverment as a single parent. There%26#039;s a reason strippers get payed so much, they are selling their dignity.

Education is the key to your problems. However, stripping is an honest job. You%26#039;re not stepping on other people%26#039;s feet. And you%26#039;re not robbing or begging. Try to look for some other %26quot;regular%26quot; jobs if you can stay away from stripping though. Remember, you%26#039;re not always young and beautiful to strip. Save save and save more. Study study and study hard to finish school. You%26#039;ll have better job opportunities if you have a degree.

I think you are better then that. I dont know you obviously but you are a young lady with a child who is doing everything she possibly can to insure a good life for her and her child.. I dont think stripping is the way to continue down that path. Think about it, dont make any decisions with out thinking about it from all angles and outcomes... Sure maybe it would be good money but there are billions of other ways to make some extra cash with out flashing your body to strange men... Your body is special and wasnt created for everyone and their uncle to see! Save it for your future husband! :o) Good luck!

Strippers tend to make decent money. Is this what you really want to do or is it just because you heard somewhere that strippers make %26quot;lots of money%26quot;?

The way that strippers make lots of money is usually by %26quot;private sessions%26quot; in the backroom with strangers. Even with a condom, these strangers can spread std%26#039;s or cause pregnancy.

You mentioned you are studying psychology. Psychology is a professional field. Who is willing to hire a Psychologist/ social worker etc with a background in pleasures of the flesh?

What type of problems will your child have as a result of your occupation? Kids are cruel to other kids. The other children will tell your child that Mom is a whore. It is highly likely that your childs grades will suffer as well.

If you are willing to risk: 1. Unwanted pregnancy 2. Disease 3. Very low social status 4.Inability to find a good job after college 5. Your chids health and well being (and future)

I wish you luck.

You might consider talking to a college counselor and see what she says. (try to get a female counselor, it will be easier to talk with her.

I know il prob get a thumbs down for this answer but...........if you have the confidence to do it and the hours and/or money will be better then go for it! I have the help of my partner raising my 2 kids but it can be very hard financially. If I had the confidence to strip I would if it meant a better life for my kids and no more debts. When your son starts school you, if you continue the job ur doing now, then you will still have to find someone to pick him up from school and look after him till you finish work which will be more money. At the end of the day, its not stereotypical or hypicritcal of you. You are trying to do whats best for your son as any mother would. Its not like ur selling your body on the streets is it? Children arent cheap and need the basics - including time with their parents- and if by being a stripper you will be able to do that and eventually afford to do the last 3 years of school so you can get an even better job then go for it! All the best!

no. education is essential

Pretty common... I see nothing morally wrong with it as you are not hurting anyone, you are getting fet and flexible... its only dancing (fun) flirting (fun) and changing your clothes which most do each day... I know girls who have done things like jelly wrestling and nothing wrong with that.

Plus you will have far more time for education, realxation, hanging with friends, spending time with kid.

You just need to be in a good club that looks after the girls has rich and dumb clients, ideally lots of fun back and birthday groups

And getting a lot more money then a bar job... get in a good place and some girls were earning like 鎷?00 a night which worksed out 鎷?70,000 a year so they could by a house in a few years, sort the uni out and have no debts, nice holiday, car and life, a downpayment to help a career and do it a few more years have the pension sorted and live off the interest and help start up a business using their education.

Plus good sexy dancing for boyfriend

Also you can open your own pole dancing school after a few years...

Hen night and 18th/21st birday groups live that and get boyfriends and husbands to send their girls over for lessons and sell the poles and disco kits.

as a side line on what your uni tuaght...

Here is a suggestion I don%26#039;t think has been made! Have you tried looking into online schooling? The way I have it set up is like this: Through my local comm. college, I am set up as a online student and through different teachers(if I am lucky my teachers come from my local. college) throughout the states community colleges I take my classes. And then I have to take 1 to MAYBE 2 exams at my local college. It is really helpful for me right now because I cannot afford day care at the moment. This past semester I had all my teachers through my local college and this semester coming up I have 3 at my local college and 3 at another college. If you would like more explaintion please feel free to email me at mysticalsunshine06@yahoo.com . I hope this suggestion helped.
