Someone please make me feel better about this student loan stuff!?

I am sad. I paid for college for myself. I just graduated, and I owe more then I thought. I am estimating like $60,000. I want to cry! That is so much money. I am planning on going to grad school in the fall, and hopefully after the 2 years I can get a job for over $60,000 (see the connection) haha.

Anyway...does anyone have this much in student loans?! If you owe less, please don%26#039;t comment and make me feel worse.

If you did are you paying it off, did you consolidate, are you struggling?! I know it will be o.k education is an investment, but I am a little shocked right now!

I work in the office at a college and let me assure you that 60K is not an abnormal amount of student loan debt to walk away from college with. Yes, it is a TON of money, but it%26#039;s not uncommon at all. Many of our Bachelor%26#039;s programs end up costing around 59K and we have an MBA that%26#039;s even more.

The payments can be very overwhelming. I think it%26#039;s too bad that education costs so much and I wonder how people can do it if they don%26#039;t find work at the salary they were hoping for.

I am also curious what your major was and if the field you are going into is a viable one. Going to grad school sounds like its a good move. You are going to increase your chances at getting even better jobs, and also put off those icky payments for a couple more years ;)

Good luck!

Well actually a lot of the business are making lower then that

Go edit your question and tell us your major. That%26#039;s a huge amount of money, but I%26#039;m sure it will be worth it in the end.

That%26#039;s awesome! I think your ambition will lead you places! As for your graduate degree, have you thought about counseling? They make freakin HUGE money. I should know. I owe one nearly $800 right now. She makes $200+ per hour.

My fiance is a med student. although he himself is not having to pay for it (lucky him he has wealthy parents) many of his fellow med students are going to come out owing upwards of around $300,000.

Does hearing that make you feel a little better? Take a deep breath, have your pymts deferred. It%26#039;s going to be OK.

The important thing here is to break up the amount owing. Divide it by about 6 years. This will give you an amount of ten thousand. If you break up the amount owing over a few years, it does%26#039;nt seem to be a lot. After you graduate, make arrangements with the organisation to repay the loan over a period of 6-7 years. Your target should be to repay atleast ten thousand a year. Whatever you do, don%26#039;t delay repaying your debt. People who are unable to pay their debts are handed over to attorneys. Furthermore, the debtor is responsible for paying, the debt, legal fees and interest. This can almost double the amount of money initially owing. The best for you would be to find a job as soon as you%26#039;ve completed your studies and pay of the money owing.

Hold up don%26#039;t get discouraged just yet, you purchased an investment so put it to good use. I don%26#039;t know where your located but some States have programs for people entering into Education that the government will pay back the loans if you teach within a certain field at a low income school for a specified period of time. To find the answer to this I would check with your College of Education Dean%26#039;s office.

Additionally, some employers have started to assist their employees by helping to pay their student loans. This too has some criteria that must be met. A friend of mine just became a counselor at a high school and after working there for 5 years they will take over her student loan payments, so there is hope.

Payments on that would be about 600 dollars a month. Good for you to get your Master%26#039;s degree though, a bachelors degree in Psychology will not earn you enough money to pay it off unless you live in your parents basement for the next 10 years.

Grit your teeth, DON%26#039;T BORROW ANY MORE MONEY, and pay your loans back proudly.
